Project Area Tour
Text Version

The Baker Wetlands reside between Haskell and Louisiana Avenues, and from 31st Street to the Wakarusa River. The Oregon Trail runs diagonally across the map from just northwest of Louisiana Ave. to southeast of 35th St.

Images on the map depict the following places of interest:

In the center of the Wetlands is the observation deck building and broad southwestern and southeastern views of bogs directly from the observation deck.

Where Louisiana crosses the Wakarusa River is an image of the river and of the Meairs Residence, built in 1870.

In the northwestern quadrant of the Wetlands is a boardwalk, with images depicting a grassy marsh, prairie grassland, northwestern and northeastern views of bogs off the boardwalk.

Near the northeast corner of the wetlands is a bog as seen from Haskell Avenue. Just east of Haskell is a bog outside local factories, and an image of the Harris Construction and Asphalt Sales companies.

Just north of 31st Street, across the Oregon Trail, is at the Prairie Park Nature Center with an image of Lake Mary. Northeast of there and across E. 1600 Road is the O’Connell Youth Ranch, built in 1875.

North of the Wetlands, between Louisiana and Haskell Avenues, is the Haskell Indian Nations University.
